LABOR LEADERS IN CEBU FOUND AFTER 1-WEEK OF MISSING

 Dateline Kamuning:

Women’s alliance GABRIELA welcomes the news that the two labor rights activists and development workers in Cebu have been found after a week of abduction, however, the group also felt the need of sustained calls for the rest of missing labor organizers and human rights activists.

“We feel relief in the news that Dyan and Armand have been rescued from the hands of their abductors, and we are also in solidarity with them and their families in their pursuit to hold their perpetrators accountable who are reported to be members of the PNP,” says GABRIELA Secretary-General Clarice Palce.

Labor rights activists and development workers Dyan Gumanao and Armand Dayoha have been found, according to their families and Karapatan-Central Visayas in a press conference today, January 16.

The two were reported missing after a series of intense surveillance since 2020. According to Danilo Gumanao, Dyan’s father, those who abducted his daughter and partner Dayoha have presented themselves as members of the Philippine National Police.

However, GABRIELA notes that this abduction is just among the many cases of various forms of human rights violations against activists in different parts of the country.

“Dapat nang may mapanagot sa karahasang ginagawa ng mga pulis at militar laban sa mga aktibista. Ilang aktibista na ba ang pinaslang at dinukot nang walang nakakamit na hustisya?

GABRIELA and its 200-strong member organizations demand the Marcos Jr. administration to hold its armed forces accountable to the grave human right abuses against labor organizers, development workers, and rights activists. The women’s group likewise asserts that these brutal attacks against activists must be immediately put to an end.
